How to Show your Category Description within your WordPress Theme
Some love to show all of the category descriptions on the actual category pages. But I found it really frustrating on why there was no quick and simple option to either show the description on the category page or not… So, I went out searching!
And, it’s really not as hard as you’d think.
First, you’ll need to actually have your description added to each category, this is really simple. Either go to your “Edit Category” page and locate the description box.
Or, when you’re creating a new category, just fill it in within the category creator form.
Now you’ve got your descriptions in place, you’ll need to locate your category template pages within the WordPress Editor.
Within your wp-admin area, go to Appearance > Theme Editor and find either the “category.php” or the “archives.php” file. This is where you’ll need to add the following line of code:
<?php echo category_description( $category_id ); ?>
You’ll have to add it above the title area for each category, take a at where we placed it within our theme.
Then just save the file, and it should be added!
